Tuesday's Class

Hey all.

Tuesday was a relaxed day in May's BDS102 class.  We gathered as a group and took a vote on what we wanted to do that day - and we decided to go with a work day, which was perfect for what I needed to do.
I had sketched a few ideas for new prototypes for my final "seat" design, so I was able to cut into my first chair and see what I liked and what I didn't.  I think I'm going to have to start over however, and make my final project more crafty and neat.

I definitely enjoyed the design challenge in creating our first chair with the constraints of:
-a 4x4' piece of cardboard morphed into a seat that when unfolded, comes BACK out to a 4x4' piece of cardboard.

This was a great exercise and I want to include it in my final seat, even though we are allowed to use as much cardboard as we like.  My final chair will include this characteristic (being able to unfold back into a square).  In addition, there will be details which relate it to the relationship between my stepbrother and myself.

Almost done

Today was another work day for our treehouse posters.  I spent the majority of last night working on some digital models of my treehouse, and am quite pleased with the results.  Today I am working on getting it all organized into an aesthetically pleasing poster.  So far the people that have seen my digital models really enjoy them, and I agree.  I am excited to see peoples' reactions about my project.

We watched the KU / Oklahoma St. game as well, and wow we barely won.  It was super intense.  It was quite distracting but I stayed up and worked last night so that I could enjoy the game today.

We were also assigned our new project.  I am a bit intimidated, since we are required to make a chair out of a 4'x4' piece of cardboard, without removing any parts from it.  I think it'll be best to start off with simple solutions, and then using a trial and error approach.  Either way, this project is much different from anything we've done so far, which is a nice break.

Continuing the project

This week in BDS102 has been a week of more sketching, building, and revising.  After coming up with our models, we were asked to refine drawings and to start planning out our poster.  I am glad that we do not have to finish a large-scale model to finish this project, but instead, a poster.  I am a graphic design major so I am always fine with making 'posters'.

I made a big sheet of about 9 different layouts for the poster, but one of them stuck out to me the most.  I want to incorporate the use of circles forming the composition of my poster, since the purpose of my treehouse is for 'people watching'.  The circles give it a theme of spying that I think fits well with my project.

Now I need to create a graphic version of my model, hoping to describe my treehouse as well as possible.  Its gonna be a lot of work but I think it'll look good in the end
